Top 5 Comedy Mystery Shows Like Wednesday

Top 5 Comedy Mystery Shows

Wednesday is a great show, made with its own special sauce that mixes comedy and mystery in a fun and compelling way. If you’re looking for something similar, here are my 5 top recommendations that you should check out.

1. The Good Place

This show focuses on a selfish woman who accidentally finds herself in heaven instead of hell. She tries everything to avoid being found out while meeting a range of personalities that both help and hinder her. While not a classic mystery show – over the seasons, there are some big twists and turns that you might figure out if you have a keen eye. It’s one of the funniest shows on the list and its one that I always recommend.

It stars Kristen Bell, Ted Danson and William Jackson Harper.

2. Desperate Housewives

An oldie but a goodie. Just like Cougar Town, the title really doesn’t convey how great this show is. After a woman passes unexpectedly, a group of women from the community try to find out what caused her death. This leads to the uncovering of many secrets, murders, affairs and lots of other drama that you won’t see coming. All the actors in the show are incredible and the show keeps its lightheartedness regardless of how dark the story gets. If for some odd reason, you haven’t seen it after all these years – you should definitely give it a try.

It stars Eva Longoria, Marcia Cross, Felicity Huffman and Teri Hatcher.

3. Deadloch

I only recently finished this show, but it was an absolute joy to watch. Be warned, it’s full of Australians swearing nonstop. If you don’t mind the foul language, and enjoy the Aussie sense of humor, then you’ll love this one. It’s about a murder in a small town that gets more out of hand with each passing episode. It’s got a very strong cast with exceptional acting and an ever-expanding mystery.

It stars Kate Box, Madeleine Sami and Nina Oyama.

4. Avenue 5

This show is set in a dystopian future where the world is governed by the offspring of tech billionaires Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk, as well as by an AI computer. A luxury space cruise ship is knocked off course and its up to the captain to get everyone home safely. However, the passengers could be straight out of the movie Idiocracy, as they somehow make every situation worse in the funniest ways. Every episode has a new disaster that the captain and crew will have to try and solve. Unfortunately, this show was cancelled after 2 amazing seasons, but it’s a must-watch.

It stars Hugh Laurie and Lenora Crichlow.

5. Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency

Dirk Gently is a holistic detective. Don’t ask me what that is because I still don’t exactly know. What I do know is that this show was entertaining from beginning to end. Dirk Gently and his reluctant sidekick solve mysteries in the strangest ways possible. It’s one of the weirdest shows I’ve ever watched, and I strongly recommend you give it a try. There’s soul-swapping, time-travelling, magical threats, ghosts and tons of other stuff that will melt your brain. Just remember – everything is connected. It’s an incredible action=packed show.

This fever-dream of a show stars Samuel Barnett and Elijah Wood.
