What Is This Murder Mystery Dinner Menu?
This Murder Mystery Dinner Menu is a planning tool I’ve created to help you easily choose some great items for your next party. It has a specically themed food and drinks that will perfectly match the vibe that you’re going for. I’ve covered many of the main themes and eras, so you can easily find one that exactly, or closely, matches the type of party you’re throwing. If you like the sound of the dish, we link out to the exact recipe for easy viewing.
There are multiple different menu items to choose from. You don’t have to choose all of them. We’re simply giving you some easy options to work from. Simply look through the menus, choose what suits your theme, and begin planning your party.
How to Use This Tool
Using the tool takes three steps:
- Choose your era or theme. I’ve added the most popular themes and eras that will fit most dinner party dinner games.
- Choose your favorite menu items. In each theme, you’ll find multiple options to choose from. Pick and choose the ones that stand out to you.
- Head to the recipe sites. If you like the sound of a dish, you can go directly to their website to view the full recipe and ingredients..
What Themes Are Available?
While I can’t cover every single theme available, I have covered the majority of those that are most popular. For instance, if you’re running a speakeasy or a Great Gatsby part – both are based in the 1920s and we’ll have some great recipe ideas for both.
What Courses Does Each Menu Cover?
Every theme includes all five of these courses:
- Welcome Drink – a cocktail, wine, or non-alcoholic option to greet guests as they arrive
- First Course – a starter or soup appropriate that matches the theme
- Main Course – the main meal of the evening
- Dessert – a pudding or sweet course
- After-Dinner – a digestif, coffee, or closing drink to end the night
Who Is This Tool For?
This tool is for anyone who is hosting a seated murder mystery dinner party and wants to find easy and delicious recipes that match their theme. There are countless recipes available online, but they aren’t all suitable for every theme. We want to make your dinner party planning as easy as possible.
It can also be used by people that aren’t specically throwing a murder mystery party, but are looking for dishes that fit a specific era in time.
Tips for Getting the Most Out of It
Before you start browsing
Make sure that you know your guest count, any dietary restrictions in your group, and roughly how much time you want to spend cooking. This will help you narrow down the right recipes for you faster.
Reading the recipe cards
Each card has a clear description with many of the ingredients listed right off the bat. You’ll quickly be able to tell if each dish sounds appetizing to you, or not.
Assigning courses to guests
If your guests are also bringing a course, share the theme with them and tell them which course they’ll be making. They can browse the options within that course separately and choose what they are comfortable making. This will give them great options to work from, without you having to coordinate everything.
Mixing themes is fine
If your murder mystery game is set in one era but you prefer the food from another, don’t limit yourself. The tool is a planning aid, not a rulebook. Choose whatever you like.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. This tool is entirely free and requires no registration. Open the page and start browsing.
The tool does not save selections automatically. Note your chosen dishes as you go, or screenshot the recipe cards you want to keep.
The menus are based on the best options for each theme, and so will vary in complexity. The recipe card descriptions will give you a better sense of how involved each dish is, but it’s best to look at the full recipe before committing to anything.
Every recipe card contains a pretty good description of the dish and what it is called. As we’re linking to independent sites, they may remove recipes any time. You can either reach out to us, and we’ll update the site with a similar recipe, or do an internet search for something similar.
Serving sizes will vary by recipe and are listed on the linked recipe pages.
